Holly Martin, BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy student at the Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯, said: “I am volunteering as a medical spotter for the Brighton Marathon because I want to give something back to the city I live in and love. Showing empathy and understanding, especially when people are frustrated and/or upset due to injury or pain will be valuable preparation for my future career as a physiotherapist.”
Organised by LME, is the third largest marathon in the UK, and the weekend also includes a 10K and a free mile event.
In addition to the healthcare roles, this year students studying event management-related modules will be volunteering across the weekend, supporting event operations, participant services, and the wider delivery of the marathon weekend.
To further support participants, the University also hosted a webinar on mental preparation ahead of race day. Led by , a Senior Lecturer and chartered sport psychologist who has worked with athletes preparing for major international competitions including the Olympic Games, the session offered practical advice on building mental resilience and readiness.
Alongside those supporting the event, Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯ students and staff are lining up to run across the marathon and 10K events.
The partnership reflects the Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯’s approach to collaborating with industry partners to support student learning through real-world experience and opportunities to work alongside professionals in practice.
